Unang naramdaman ang vocal intensity ni Mariah noong 1990 nang ilabas nito ang kaniyang self-title album. Ang self-titled album ni Mariah ay nagbigay sa kaniya ng apat na #1 singles. Nagpatuloy ang tagumpay ng American singer dahil sa patuloy na pagtangkilik ng tao sa kaniyang iba’t-ibang hit singles mula sa mga album na Emotions (1991) at MTV Unplugged (1992).

Kabilang sa bagong album ang ilang productions mula kina Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri, Hit-Boy at Mike Will Made It. Ang deluxe edition naman ay may duets pa with R. Kelly at Mary J. Blige.
